In line with UNFPA’s “One Voice” global initiative and UNFPA Zambia’s Communications and Advocacy Strategy (2018-2021), the Communications Consultant will facilitate/support all Strategic Communications and Advocacy functions of the Office of the Representative and the Country Office.

This includes scaling-up external and internal communication functions across all programmes; while strengthening UNFPA’s corporate brand and reputation as the thought leader in sexual reproductive health and rights.

SCOPE OF WORK

External Communications

  • Facilitate ongoing implementation of the UNFPA Zambia Communications Strategy (2018-2021); as well as provide support to the consultant undertaking the review of the Strategy.
  • Work with technical staff to ensure timely and effective implementation of COVID-19 risk communication; in particular supporting the consultant undertaking the COVID-19 KAP survey as well as partners undertaking COVID-19 SBCC activities.
  • Maintain close collaboration with media, as well as other partners whose support is essential to the achievement of communication objectives under the GRZ/UNFPA 8th Country Programme.
  • Working with technical staff, facilitate the compilation of the 2020 annual report; human interest stories; press releases; and other advocacy/information materials;
  • Ensure UNFPA Zambia website, Facebook and Twitter pages are dynamic and interactive platforms - making full use of available strategies to attract, broaden and engage audiences;
  • Coordinate with programe staff to support the commemoration / undertaking of key events; including ensuring media coverage on internal and external platforms.
  • Facilitate the promotion of UNFPA and donor visibility - including graphic designs, page layouts, templates, banners and logos - in line with UNFPA and donor branding guidelines.

Internal Communications

  • Coordinate with programme teams to prepare monthly environmental scanning reports, monthly COVID-19 Situation Reports, briefing notes, talking points and speeches

REQUIRED EXPERTISE, QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Master’s Degree in Communications; Public Relations; Development Studies or any related social science.
  • Minimum 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in managing communication programmes for development agencies/organizations
  • Familiarity with approaches for planning, executing, and monitoring communication strategies;
  • Knowledge of current developments in the fields of Reproductive Health, Population and Development and Gender.
  • Ability to research; analyze, evaluate and synthesize information.
  • Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Experience working with UN agencies and Government is an added advantage
